Practical Self-Defense for Children
KMD Kids teaches age-appropriate Krav Maga with an emphasis on awareness and good decisions. Students practice recognizing uncomfortable situations, setting boundaries, using their voice and seeking help from trusted adults. They also learn how to escape common grabs, create distance and move toward safety.
We teach children that self-defense is never about starting a fight or proving they are tough. Avoiding danger and getting help come first. Physical skills give them another option if they need to protect themselves.
Lessons are taught in a controlled setting and adjusted for a child’s age and experience. New students do not need to arrive knowing how to defend themselves. They come to learn, practice and grow.

KMD Kids is led by Krav Maga Detroit owner and 3rd Dan Black Belt Paweł Cichowlas. With more than 40 years of martial arts experience, Paweł personally helps lead classes and sets the standard for how children are taught.
The coaches working alongside him are trained by Paweł. That gives students consistent instruction and gives parents the chance to see the people responsible for their child’s training in action.
We believe this combination of Paweł’s direct leadership, coaches trained by him and a dedicated children’s Krav Maga curriculum makes KMD Kids the only program of its kind in Michigan.
Confidence Built Through Practice
Confidence is more than being told you can do something. It grows when you try a new skill, receive coaching and discover that you can improve.
In KMD Kids classes, children practice listening, working safely with partners and staying engaged when something is challenging. They learn to control their movements, encourage classmates and take responsibility for their progress. Teamwork and leadership are part of what happens on the mat.
Every child develops at a different pace. Whether your child is quiet, energetic, new to martial arts or ready for a fresh challenge, our coaches will help them find a place to begin.
